What are the bearings?
The bearing is a machine element that used to reduce friction between moving parts of the machines and helps to support in the rotation or we can say that the element that allows one segment to bear the other.
Nowadays, there is a demand for bearings in the market.
These elements used in preventing deviation and the friction allow the parts of the machine to get the desired motion.
In a simple way, the work of bearings is-
-Bear the thrust load
-Support in rotating the machine elements
-Reduce friction between the parts of the machine
Types of Bearings
There are several types of bearings that used in industries. The bearings are classified on the basis of friction, anti-friction, and load.
Friction Bearings
As the name suggests that in this type of bearings the bearing surface is in the contact with the moving surface that helps to produce more friction. These bearings are made up of brass, bronze, cast iron, and a white metal having round shape.
A lubricant is used in this bearing to slow down the movement and heavy weighted running on the shaft. The friction bearing is divided into following types-
Solid bearings
Solid bearings are made up of bronze and cast iron in the form of cast iron housings.
It contains a hole that supports the shaft and forms running ft. This bearing is used for light and small shafts that move at low speed.
Split bearings
This bearing is same as solid bearings but consists of an arrangement of the split. These bearings are assembled in plumber blocks.
Self-aligning bush bearings
This bearing consists of two parts one is a cast iron block and the other is bush. This is made up of brass in round shape. In this, a screw is fixed at one end and a half to the bush and half in the block.
Adjustable slide bearings
This bearing is used to adjust the tightness between bearing and shaft. The bearing is fitted in the hole of the housing for the adjustment of wear.
Anti-friction bearings
These bearings are used to decrease the temperature and speed of the moving objects. These include various types of ball bearings and rollers.
Ball Bearings- This is a rolling element that used to maintain the separation between the bearing races.
Types of ball bearings
1.Single row ball bearings
These types of bearings have only one groove cut in inner and outer rings with the ball in identical line.
2.Double row ball bearing
These types of ball bearings have two grooves cut in outer and inner rings that lie in two rows.
3.Angular contact ball bearings
These bearings are used to take an axial thrust and radial loads.
Roller bearings- These bearings are available with grooved race in inner and outer members. These bearings can work with a greater load than ball bearings.
